Reduction of Microbial Contamination in Kaolin from Belitung Island, Indonesia

Kaolin is often used as an excipient in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries well anticaking, bulking, absorbent, opacifying agent. It also required some with a limited number of microbial contaminations, but no study has explored the reduction these contaminant microbes based on requirements. Therefore, this aims to produce kaolin that complies contamination specifications. Several methods were reduce content, including heating, sterilization using anautoclave, soaking ethanol, methanol, chloroform. The contaminations was then measured Petri dish method. result showed 2 h heating treatment not sufficient eliminate even at temperature 250°C, hence, it combined addition sodium hypochlorite obtain better outcome. Furthermore, autoclave 121°C for 20 min or without pre-treatment successfully reduced population <102 per gram met standardrequirement industries.
